Chapter 04 · Safety
Erection ring side effects and safe wear times
The main erection ring side effects are discomfort, numbness, bruising or skin color changes, usually from a ring that is too tight or worn too long.
The FirmTech guide to staying safe is simple: wear the ring snug rather than tight, stay within its rated wear time, use the right lubricant, and take it off at the first sign of pain. The cautions on this page apply to constriction rings in general. A doctor can tell you about your own risks.

Are erection rings safe?
For most men, used as directed, yes. FirmTech's rings are made from soft, medical-grade, latex-free elastomer, adjust with a hook-and-loop strap, and come with stated wear times. Talk to a doctor first if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners.
Warning signs: take it off now
- Pain or a pinching feeling
- Numbness or tingling that does not pass
- Coldness in the penis
- Skin turning pale, blue or dark
The latch on a FirmTech ring opens in seconds. If symptoms do not ease quickly after removing a ring, get medical help.
Safe wear time by ring
- TechRing: up to 12 hours, designed and studied for overnight wear, per FirmTech.
- Performance Ring: up to 12 hours.
- MaxPR:up to 90 minutes, because it is FirmTech's tightest ring.
Do not treat one ring's wear time as applying to another.
Talk to a doctor first if
- You have a bleeding disorder
- You take blood thinners
- You have a condition affecting blood flow or sensation in the penis
- You are unsure whether a constriction ring suits you
